MORRIS WATER MAZE

Get results over a great range of metrics quickly, simply and on budget with the latest video tracking and analysis software.

HVS Image 2016 is a solution for scientists who want to track in Morris Water Maze, open field, T-maze, Y-Maze, radial-arm maze, Barnes maze. The HVS Image tracking system enables you to track and analyze paths in Morris Water Maze and other popular mazes. It is an integrated system for automatic recording of activity, movement and interaction.

HVS Image Software for Morris Water Maze

HVS Image for Morris Water Maze is the definitive system for Morris Water Maze Experiments with over 1000 peer reviewed papers published since the water-maze procedure was developed by R G M Morris, using an early HVS Image tracking solution. The system is highly regarded for its ease of use and the quality of data gained.

HVS Image 2016 takes over thirty years of expertise in Water Maze and Video based behavioral research and delivers it at the touch of a button. Building on the renowned success of the classic HVS Image systems, HVS Image 2016 is even more intuitive and easier to use and comes at a price which out-competes every professional system on the market.

Rather than swamping you with obscure and seldom used analysis HVS Image have selected (and indeed developed) the key metrics which are used in the vast majority of peer reviewed publications and can be applied across your data at the touch of a button. HVS Image have worked with the investigators who have developed many of the key tests and unlike some systems we don't code into software physical requirements that are impossible for a researcher to actually do in the laboratory.

HVS Image 2016 is more robust and far easier to set up and run than any previous system, and contains smart diagnostics that don't get in your way but automatically spot all the common problems that experimenters face when setting up and running trials and will give context sensitive advice just when it is needed. We still offer the best possible comprehensive technical support and all now for the lowest price in the market.

Using just a conventional notebook computer, and a USB camera you can be up and running incredibly quickly and efficiently.

Some of the measures and analyses provided in HVS Image Water 2016 - you can use as few or as many of these as you like, as appropriate to your specific research:

·         Latency

·         Path length

·         Average swim speed

·         Percentage of time floating (particularly relevant for mice)

·         Active swim speed (average swim speed corrected for floating)

·         Percentage of time in each quadrant

·         Percentage of path in each quadrant

·         Percentage of time in each zone

·         Heading (angle relative to ideal path)

·         Number of passes through counters

·         Percentage of time in counters

·         Latencies to counters

·         Close encounters time and path / close passes to platform

·         Quad Entries

·         Path Efficiency Ratio

·         Thigmotaxis (percentage of time and percentage of path)

·         Gallagher Measures (e.g. Proximity, Cumulative, Segment)

·         Corridor Test (derived from Wishaw Corridor Test but handles any start point to any platform position and normalises the result to allow for different corridor areas)

·         Blokland Measure (% time in quadrants exceeding time in the outer thigmotaxis band)

·         Cone Test

·         Path Ratio

·         Pool Circling

·         Blokland Quads

·         Time bins

·         Speed vs Time

·         Kelly Test

o    Users can also define their own detection areas for analysis.

o    Users can analyse separate slices of trials as well as whole trials.

o    Users can define thresholds, e.g.:

§  floating

§  distance over which heading angle is measured

§  thigmotaxis

§  corridor width

§  counter diameter

§  slice start and end

Data files can be exported to other packages, including Wintrack, and data gathered with previous HVS  Image systems can still be analyzed in HVS Image 2016.

The data is acquired for all of the above and you can choose which to use, depending on what you require for your particular research. You can also change various settings/thresholds according to what's appropriate to your study, for example you can define how close to a platform position should be counted as close, how close to the pool side should count as thigmotaxis, etc.

You have the ability to analyse different 'slices' of trials as well as complete trials, in order to focus on a particular part of the trials (e.g. from the beginning for a certain number of seconds, or from part way through until the end, or a slice anywhere in the middle), which can be particularly useful for probe tests.

The all-new interface is simple to use yet highly powerful and
gives context sensitive help along the way.

HVS Image 2016 will work with almost any new laptop computer (with a USB 2.0 or 3.0 port) and although it is designed for Windows 8 it will run on any Microsoft Window operating system from Windows XP SP3 upwards. The HVS Image 2016 System Control Panel will automatically check the system performance over a number of parameters before you start so that you know that your hardware is able to capture data without losses or problems.

You can calibrate simply and quickly, guided at every step. Generally just pressing the St Threshold button will set up tracking threshold automatically for your whole series of trials.

Before each trial, the platform position for the trial is marked on the live video image allowing you to place the platform accurately.

Tracking is robust and clearly visible on screen. You can set trials to end by time, by click, automatically as soon as the subject reaches the platform, or automatically a specified number of seconds after the subject reaches the platform.

As always, you can run batches of experiments from Master Experiment Files (also known as TXP files) which are easy to set up and edit in Excel or any text editor. If you make a mistake while running you can simply press the re-run button.

You can analyze batches or series of trials together, creating a summary file of all the measures and analyses you may wish to use, and a custom results file with just those that you are currently interested in, for export to Excel or statistical packages.

You can also see analyses and trace plots for each individual trial.
